We hope you stay with us for many years and become a valued member, but most of all we hope you enjoy yourself and make many friends! The club has only one flying site at present so do take care when visiting the field to: Close the gates properly when you enter and leave the farm Park sensibly and try not to spin your wheels or otherwise damage the field When disconnecting the electric fence make sure you switch it OFF When reconnecting, if you're the last to leave, make sure you switch it ON Don't switch on your transmitter at your car Don't run engines in the parking area Try not to overfly the nearby farm house and marina developement Keep well clear of riders and horses in the lane or on the bridlepath in the next field Please don't leave litter or broken props or what have you behind Remember, we only have the field because of the farmer so be friendly to him and try not to cause distress to his animals. This goes for walkers and hikers too, they have the potential to cause us lots of grief, so be nice. Please try to keep your models as quiet as practicable. Larger than usual props will help by reducing revs. Try to choose engines with an effective silencer. Fly out over the empty farmland rather than over the lane and adjacent house. Can I Help? Turn up at / enter events Help organise functions and events Be friendly, courteous and helpful to others Pay you dues on or even before time! If you're Learning to Fly Learning to fly can be traumatic! Not a little dedication is reqiured of both you and your instructor. It takes time and many, many sessions before you fly solo. In that time you'll probably have plenty of prangs and quiet evenings at home repairing the damage! But don't be discouraged - you will get there. To find someone willing to teach you just turn up at the field or a club meeting and ask - don't be afraid, we all had to do it! If you find someone and arrange flying sessions together then please respect the time and effort your instructor is putting in for you. Remember, he wants to get some flying in too! And whatever you do don't organise a session with him and then not turn up! Once you can fly safely your instructor will probably be keen for you to take your BMFA "A" certificate. As your skills further improve you can take your "B" certificate, and even a "C" ! As you gain more knowledge of flight you'll realise there's more to it than you ever expected. The old hands have forgotten more than you'll probably ever learn, yet even they have only just scratched the surface. Welcome to this most fascinating of hobbies! Enjoy!
